With over 20 years of experience in early childhood education, I’m passionate about creating enriching, hands-on learning experiences that align with the Montessori philosophy. About Me and My Vision
My journey in education began with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Emporia State University, followed by a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas. I’ve had the privilege of working with children in various roles throughout my career, and I am deeply committed to creating holistic, child-centered educational environments that empower young learners.
Professional Experience and Community Involvement
With over 20 years of experience in working with children, I have served in various roles including director, provider, and teacher. My commitment to the community extends beyond the classroom; I have been actively involved in the Overland Park Historical Society Board and continue to serve as a member of the Junior League of Kansas City, MO, where I help families and children in our community.
The Exploring Our World Program
One of my proudest accomplishments at Bluebird Montessori is developing the Exploring Our World Program, which brings learning beyond the classroom walls. This program integrates community-driven field trips and in-school visits with local experts, giving our children the opportunity to explore their surroundings in a hands-on, engaging way. From visiting businesses and nature areas in Downtown Overland Park to welcoming firefighters, musicians, and other community members into our school, I strive to immerse children in the world around them.
Through the Exploring Our World Program, I aim to foster curiosity, responsibility, and a sense of connection in every child. My goal is to provide an education that is not only academically enriching but also personally meaningful, helping children understand their place in the world and inspiring them to become lifelong learners.
Commitment to Lifelong Learning
In addition to leading Bluebird Montessori, I am dedicated to my own continuous professional development. I regularly participate in workshops and continuing education programs to stay current with best practices and bring new ideas to our school.
At Bluebird Montessori, I am proud to nurture children academically, socially, and emotionally, and I am excited to continue building a community where every child can thrive. Through my leadership and the Exploring Our World Program, I am committed to empowering children to become engaged, confident, and connected individuals ready to make a positive impact in their communities.
